Description

The Golden island or Donkey Island is located 8 miles south of Ierapetra, of the
South Cretan sea. It is a flat islet famous for tropical waters that drain the entire color
palette of blue and green, the protected forest and the millions of broken shells that
give white sand a pink hue.
The Cedar forest, which extends into the center of the island, has an area of 350
acres, with an average of 14 trees per hectare and average age of trees 200-300
years, covers approximately ¼ of the island. These trees, is a rare variety of Cedars
of Lebanon, reaching in height up to 10 m, while the trunk has a diameter of up to 1
meter. Cedars have root systems, which develops within a radius of at least twice
their height. Apart from the great roots, a very large amount involves radicals form a
dense Plexus, that holds the sand. The path through the forest and the dunes are
magical.
You will travel to the island, where you stay for about 4.5 hours. Relax on the beach
or take a long walk along the endless Beach and admire millions of colorful small
shells. A perfect hidden paradise that will remain in the memory of all and an
interesting excursion for couples and families.
